So if you restrict your daily calorie consumption by 500 calories below your daily requirement, without altering your physical activity levels, you will burn off 1 pound of fat per week. Restricting your calories by more than this for long periods of time is not good for you. It’s also counterproductive as your body will eventually go into starvation mode, where by your metabolism will decrease making it harder to lose weight. Take a look at the types of foods you are eating day to day. Is your diet high in fat? Are a high proportion of calories coming from fried foods, chocolate, cakes, and the like? If so, these are a good place to start. Cut back either entirely or at least on proportion size, until you’ve restricted your daily calorie intake by 500 calories below your daily requirement. Once you’ve done this, if you still need to draw back your calories, look at the starchy foods. Reduce your white bread, white rice, and potato portions. Don’t eliminate them completely, just reduce the portion size.
